WHAT IS BMI AND ITS SIGNIFICANCE?

BMI stands for Body Mass Index. It is an international standard for assessing body weight or size in adult human being. BMI is completed using the formula WEIGHT(kg)\HEIGHT(m²). Evidence from such measurement shows that BMI is associated with type-2 diabetes, cancer, hypertension and high risk of cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, BMI less than 18.5kgm² is being considered as underweight, BMI between 18.5kgm²-24.5kgm² is considered healthy weight, BMI between 25-30kgm² is considered over weight, BMI greater than 30 to 40 is considered as obese, while BMI greater than 40 is very obese. It’s highly important that one knows his or her BMI in order to avoid such diseases mentioned above.
