Studies have shown that when you hear music to your liking, the brain actually releases a chemical called DOPAMINE that has positive effects on your mood. Without much ado, below are some of the ways in which music improves your health:
IMPROVES MEMORY: Research has shown that the repetitive elements of rhythm and melody help our brains form patterns that enhance memory. In a study of stroke survivors, listening to music helped them experience more verbal memory, less confusion, and better focused attention.
BLOOD PRESSURE: Research shows that laughter and music can lower blood pressure quickly by triggering blood vessels to broaden by approximately 30%. After 3 months of exposure to laughter and good music, patients demonstrate a decrease in blood pressure. Additionally, music with crescendos constricts blood vessels to increase blood pressure, heart rate and respiration. Songs without such climaxes reduced blood pressure. This helps reduce risks of stroke and heart disease.
PAIN RELIEF: In studies of patients recovering from surgery, those who listened to music before, during, or after surgery had less pain and more overall satisfaction compared with patients who did not listen to music as part of their care.
IMPROVES EXERCISE: Studies suggest that music can enhance aerobic exercise, boost mental and physical stimulation and increase overall performance.
STRESS RELIEF: Listening to calming music is equally as powerful at minimizing stress and anxiety compared to a body massage. Staying tuned to calming music while in a relaxed position for at the least 45 minutes generates delta brainwaves that may stimulate sound sleep.
