THE RISKS OF EXPOSING CHILDREN TO SMART PHONES

WHY DO MOTHERS USE SMART PHONE ON THEIR KIDS?

It has been noticed that when a baby does not want to be friendly to their mother or play with them, mothers now pull out what is enticing to their kids usually mobile phones and use it to lure them into coming closer. This is one of the most common sights in every household around the world today. In most cases, mothers now use smart phones for training their kids especially in the area of learning.

Mothers would often put cartoon videos on their smart phones in order to make their kids sit in one place while they feed them. This very lifestyle has now become a habit for their children. Since children learn from whatever they see and hear around them, when they see their parents and even some grandparents so involved in their phones, they want to explore that virtual world too. However, your kids being involved so much in a smart phone could be really unhealthy for them.

FACTS TO BEAR IN MIND ABOUT SMART PHONES

Children who over-use smart phones or have smart phones around them a lot like near their ears or head are usually exposed to radiations that can cause some serious health risks. Since children have fragile and vulnerable bodies, they are at risk of developing some form of tumours, especially in the regions around the head and the ear. Because of their thin skin, children absorb around 60% radiation that is emitted from mobile phones which can affect their body system, especially the nervous system.

RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH SMART PHONES IN KIDS

Disrupted brain activity: The brain has a network of signals it uses to communicate with the rest of the body. Mobile phones also based on a network of electromagnetic waves, used for communication between one device and the other. While in adults, some factors such as strong bones and structures act as a buffer against these waves entering the body and disturbing the brain functions but in children, it may penetrate into the system and disrupt brain activity. Such disruption can cause problems in focusing, emotional and behavioural changes among others.

Lack of patience: Children can also face behavioural issues like reduced patience. Children get so used to getting everything done fast. They become impatient when something takes slightly longer. A very good example of this is when you give your child a phone with a slow internet connection, and see his or her reaction. This will definitely show you the impact of smart phones on their mental development. Such a situation can cause issues in their personal, professional, and academic lives and such lifestyle is likely to persist as time goes by.

Increased risk of mental issues: According to a recent study, young people who spend several hours or more a day on screens are at twice the risk of being diagnosed with depression or anxiety than those who use screens for an hour a day. However, keeping them away from smart phones starting from the very tender age is a better idea. It will not only save you from the possibilities of visiting one hospital and the other but at the same time improve their wellbeing too.
