Remedies For Toothache Pain

Remedies for toothache pain? Some years ago, I had a toothache when I was meant to stay with my senior sister that just got married back then. The pain which started around 11:00 PM came with an excruciating pain.

Honestly, it was an unforgettable experience then, a situation that kept everyone awake for the whole day in the family. It’s toothache!

Actually, when a tooth starting to hurt badly, people forget about all the problems, focusing on one particular thing – how to deal or remove the pain. People start looking for a solution to it, that’s, toothache remedies that work.

Pain can be totally various, from mild pain to the growing and excruciating one. It does not give the ability to think about something besides it. This attack can suddenly disappear but sometimes can really damage the whole day.

Tooth pain can occur at the most inappropriate moment, for instance, when you are sleeping, outside from home, far from people, and simply no one can help you in this situation.

Therefore, everyone should know some of the ways to relieve a toothache by themselves either at home or somewhere else.

Meanwhile, a simple and proven method to eliminate pain (toothache pain) is to take medications.

But what if you do not have these drugs at home or a pharmacy is too far away from you? What should you do? Are there proven home remedies for toothache you can rely on?

However, below are 10 believed toothache remedies in Nigeria you can resort to when the need arises.

A simple glass of warm water with salt can create wonders. Dissolve half a teaspoon of salt with two hundred ml of water and rinse your mouth using this solution.

Due to this method, the tissue fluid will disappear and the nerve tumor will be reduced. Also, the liquid will counter the growth of bacteria as well.



Antibiotic and a lot of other properties of garlic are effective against bacteria. So, a clove of garlic should be crushed and mixed with salt or sodium chloride.

Next, the mixture is put on the aching tooth. In addition, you can just chew garlic, trying to get to the disturbing tooth. The remedy must be used within a few days.

Salt And Pepper

If the tooth has got a strong sensitivity, the mixture of pepper and salt effectively helps it. To do this, mix pepper and salt in equal parts with water and stir until smooth.

Then, apply the paste on the tooth and leave for five minutes. The procedure must be repeated for several days.


Cut a small slice of potato, place it on the aching tooth and hold it until the pain or discomfort disappears.


Antimicrobial and antiseptic properties of onions are well known. At the first sensation of pain, you should chew raw onion for a few minutes.

If the pain does not allow you chewing, then put a piece of onion on the tooth and leave it there for a while.

Using ice will only mute a toothache. Put an ice cube in a plastic bag and then wrap it with a cotton cloth. You should put the resulting bundle to your cheek for a few minutes.

You can put ice directly on the tooth, but it is risky because it can only increase the pain because the nerves contact with a cold object is extremely undesirable.

Apple vinegar

Swab dipped in vinegar is placed on the affected area and hold during two – three minutes, gradually toothache should disappear.

It is believed that young guava leaves help to relieve a toothache. You can just chew them up until you feel its juice, which will remove the pain.

You can also cook four leaves, drain the broth, add salt and use it for rinsing the mouth. Raw spinach leaves may replace guava leaves well.



Slice of cucumber is put on the sore spot. Take a cucumber and cut into small slices.

Completely rinse the cucumber and place the slices in the refrigerator. When your tooth begins to hurt, take one slice of cucumber and put it in your mouth directly on the infected tooth.

The coolness from the cucumber will soothe the ache and take away the pain.

In conclusion, although the above mentioned remedies may be considered toothache remedies in Nigeria, but one needs to visit a DENTIST concerning any underlying toothache issues.
