Human body loses water naturally through urine, sweating and excretion through the digestive system. During the summer season, the body sweats a lot, which causes even more loss of water from the body system. However, the summer season can be really harsh on the body, depriving it of water and moisture. Hence, the need for hydration which is extremely important for the body as it ensures good health, efficient body functions including special benefits for the heart and weight loss.
Therefore, it is important to keep the body hydrated during the summer season in order to overcome some problems such as heat stroke. Perhaps, the best way to hydrate the body is to drink a lot of water, but there are some other crucial ways to do same and they are as follows;
TAKE FOODS RICH IN WATER
Another great way to make up for the lost water in the body, apart from drinking anything just available, is to include foods rich in water in your diet. A salad made with water-rich vegetables like cucumbers and fruits like watermelon, sun melon can be really hydrating.
BY TAKING MILK
Milk has a lot of health benefits especially for growing children as it promotes growth and strength in the body. However, milk can also help avoid dehydration more especially during the summer. According to current research, milk is a better way of hydrating children than any other energy drinks or even water itself because it is a source of high quality protein, carbohydrates, calcium and electrolytes. It works well for hydration in adults too and a milk-based drink should definitely be included in one’s summer day. However, another recent study found that fat-free milk and whole milk was more hydrating than water itself.
BY TAKING ORANGE JUICE
The same very study reported also that orange juice is, in fact, a very hydrating drink and therefore should be a part of everyone’s diet during the summer season. Orange juice, although may not be as effective as milk, contains natural sugar which can help regain energy lost due to the excess heat.
CONSIDER ALSO SWEET DRINKS AND CRISPS
Sweet drinks and crisps are in fact very helpful in hydrating the body in the summer. When you sweat, you lose a reasonable amount of water and salt from the body. For you to replenish these, you must include naturally sweet beverages like fruit juices to make up for the energy and water loss, and also balance the salt loss with the help of crisps.
Including tea in your diet in the summer season can have some rehydrating effects also. A lemon ginger tea adds salt and sugar to your body and creates a balance. We lose sugar, water and salt in the form of sweat and need to replace it to make sure our body is not dehydrated.
Always consult your doctor or a dietician before making any changes to your diet.
