At present, overweight is a major health problem that has troubled every age group. Today, obesity is spreading very fast among children. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) data, 41 million children between the ages of 0 and 5 years are suffering from obesity. If this trend continues like this, the number of obese and heavy-weight infants will increase to 70 million by the year 2025.
The data is very dangerous as this increasing weight brings a variety of problems for them. Obesity in childhood can lead to many serious health problems, including diabetes and heart disease. Therefore, it is important to control the increasing weight of children. Let us discuss some of the measures that can help in controlling children’s weight;
AVOID GIVING THEM STARCHY CARBS: Avoid starchy carbohydrates such as bread, rice, pasta, white rice and potatoes. Include eggs or other protein-rich food in the diet.
KEEP AN EYE ON THE GLYCEMIC INDEX (GI): The glycemic index shows how quickly it converts glucose after eating. Eating low-GI foods helps to stay healthy for a long time and also helps to keep blood sugar levels under control.
SELECT FRUITS AND VEGETABLES CAREFULLY: Fruits and vegetables are extremely beneficial for health. Foods like corn and potatoes are more helpful than grapes, apples, kiwis, berries and oranges in high GI and some other fruits such as bananas and pineapples.
TAKE PROTEIN IN FOODS: Using protein-full food will reduce appetite for the baby. It is low in calories and hence helps in maintaining the muscles of children. Make sure to include protein-rich foods like dairy products, meat, eggs, beans, etc. in your baby’s diet.
EAT HEALTHY FATTY FOODS: Always remember that not all fats are useless. Healthy fatty foods like unsaturated oils, avocados and nut butter help indigestion. Consumption of fruits, vegetables and whole grains proves to be beneficial for health. Fat is a must for your child’s health as this effort is helpful in making membranes.
