WHAT FRUIT IS CHIKOO?
Sapodilla or sapota (chikoo) is another popular tropical fruit in line with mango, banana, jackfruit, etc. Chikoo composes of soft, easily digestible pulp made of simple sugars like fructose and sucrose. Chikoo is a tropical evergreen, fruit-bearing tree belongs to the family of Sapotaceae, hence the name sapota. The fruit, popular as nasebrry, is one of the most relished tropical delicacy in the Caribbean islands. Its scientific name is Manilkara zapota.
Chikoo or Sapodilla or Sapota is one of the widely talked about fruits when it comes to health benefits. A brown coloured, small, round fruit, chikoo is widely eaten. Chikoos are consumed directly, by removing the skin and the seeds of the fruit and eating the pulp of the fruit. They are also used to make juices and shakes. Some people also use chikoos to make jams, jellies and ice creams too.

Wash the sandy scruff before eating in cold water. Fresh sapodilla or chikoo should be eaten when it turns soft. Cut the fruit into two halves, then scoop the flesh using a spoon and discard the seeds. It should be enjoyed without any additions in order to experience its unique flavor.
